What To Do About WORKING FOR “THE MAN”

September 29, 2008 By Tim Mallon 4 Comments

Maybe you are unsure of what I am talking about. I don’t want to offend any of you into thinking I am sexist and that you cannot just as easily work for a woman. Also, I do not mean that you work for “the man” as in “Yeah, my boss is ‘the man!’, ‘the dude!’, ‘the best!’”. No, I mean, working for “the man” and wanting to stick it to him.

Do you work for ‘the man’? It sucks, I know. Maybe you are ‘the man’.. or ‘the woman’… and not that there’s anything wrong with that. You should be happy that you are ‘the man’… or ‘the woman’. Actually, part of me wants to take that back. It doesn’t always suck. Sometimes your boss really is ‘the man!’. I mean that he… or she… is “the man!” as in “the dude!”, “the best!”. Of course, then it wouldn’t suck because ‘the man’ or ‘the woman’ that you are working for is ‘the man!’ or ‘the woman!’

I have worked for myself. I was ‘the man’ and ‘the man!’ Well, I tried to be. I think sometimes it is necessary to be ‘the man’ and not ‘the man!’ in order to run a successful business.

I would highly recommend working for someone who is ‘the man!’… or ‘the woman!’ as opposed to just ‘the man’. It can make all the difference in a work experience. If you are currently working for ‘the man’ and not ‘the man!’, try and buck up… persevere and look for jobs where you can work for ‘the man!’… or ‘the woman!’.

February 4, 2011 By Tim Mallon 2 Comments

It just isn’t right! It is so confusing! Trying to differentiate between different spatulas can be quite the challenge. “Hand me a spatula, no, not that one, the scrapey one.” “Scrapey one?” “Yeah, the one that you use to scrape the sides of the bowl.” “Oh you mean the silicone one.” “What is silicone?” Why?…
