As I have noted previously, I wear flip flops all the time. Yes, yes, just like many of you, the flip flop is my go-to footwear for 8 months of the year. Several times I have been out and about, you know, shopping, mingling, wining and dining, being social, coffee-shop-ing, and all of a sudden a torrential downpour appears, and happens. Rain and flip flops do not go well together. They come from opposite sides of the railroad tracks. The sun and flip flops are on one side of the tracks, while rain and army boots are on the other side.

The other day while walking out of Whole Foods Market, I almost bit the bullet. You see, not only does the flip flop not have good traction on a wet surface, but your foot, which is exposed, is now wet and is sliding off of the flip flop. Therefore, my flop went flip while my foot went flop, which almost sent me flying feet first!

Luckily, from my days as a neighborhood meter reader, in which I had to walk through every kind of weather imaginable, I have acquired a knack for catching myself while tripping. I think the trick is to let the foot go that is snagged or slipping. Just let it do its thing. In the meantime, use your other foot to correct your balance. You may have to let yourself fall in such a way that it makes it easier for your leg and foot to catch yourself, as you are falling in a manner with which your other leg is confident it can help you recover from.

Suppose you do not have the best coordination and would not be able to catch yourself, what else, what else could you do to keep yourself safe when wearing flip flops in the rain?? Well, you are in luck! We here at WhatToDoAbout.com have developed our proprietary Flop Chains! Just think of them like tire chains that you would put on your car when driving through heavy snowfall. Flop chains allow you to walk confidently in rainy weather. The comfortable leather strap nestles the top of your foot while the chains wrap the bottom of the flip and keep you from flopping.

Also, for those that cannot afford our custom Flop Chains, we offer custom engraved WhaToDoAbout.com canes. These beauties can be yours for only $750. The great thing about having a cane is that it really makes you a couple notches cooler, just for carrying it around. It is an excellent fashion statement that will transcend the years of your life, as you will enjoy it from 25 to 85. Spread out over 60 years, the initial investment is minimal, and the cane is multipurpose. Not only does the cane help you to maintain your balance through slippery conditions, it can also help you in warding off would-be assassins! Or, if you have kids, and we all know kids need discipline, you will always have your custom cane nearby to help provide that discipline!

There you have it! What To Do About WALKING IN THE RAIN WITH FLIP FLOPS! May you never fall in the rain again!

If you know anything about me, you know I don't like to be in or near flip flops. But after a week at the lake I decided that I might be swayed to the dark side. The side that I used to make fun of, the side that told me flip flops are great. I spent an entire week without shoes or a shirt for that matter and was quite comfortable. It wasn't as bad as I thought it would be.

If you know anything about me, you know I don’t like to be in or near flip flops. But after a week at the lake I decided that I might be swayed to the dark side. The side that I used to make fun of, the side that told me flip flops are great. I spent an entire week without shoes or a shirt for that matter and was quite comfortable. It wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be. Even though I didn’t do any running, using public bathrooms, walking in wet grass, chasing a purse thief, driving a car, trying to date, shopping, playing any sports, and well doing anything productive.

I still think that flip flops are not very practical, I mean, what if you need to defend yourself and all you have is your shoe? You can’t beat a guy within an inch of his life with a flip flop. You can’t even give a kid a good spanking!

All this being true, once I broke those dang things in they were quite comfortable. It was really nice not having shoes on all week. My shoes are always on as I run around sharing the pain of fitness training with the rest of the world. So to take off my kicks was nice, my feet actually got a tan.

Of course, once I got home I burned my flip flops, because I don’t want people seeing me in them. I can say that it was an enlightening experience and that it was nice but like a vacation, it’s not practical all the time. Besides, no one wants to see your toe hair anyways!

I mean it‚Äôs something that usually has to be done if you don‚Äôt want to risk tripping yourself and breaking your kneecaps off. If you wear shoes that have laces I highly recommend tying your shoes…come on don‚Äôt be lazy. You still have both your kneecaps right? Good, you‚Äôll want to keep those.

I also think that it’s important to let everyone know, if you don’t tie your shoe laces then you leave others the opportunity to step on your untied laces and trip you while you are walking. This leaves you looking stupid and the other person laughing at you. You don’t want that.
I highly recommend that you purchase a pair of hip slip on shoes. This will allow you to avoid tying your shoes all together. So, what should you do about tying your shoes? 1) Don’t be lazy. 2) Don’t look stupid. 3). Avoid it if you can by purchasing a pair of hip slip on shoes.

I don’t know about you but I like to be free… and that includes my feet. Flip flops offer some nice freedom for the feet but beware… oh beware, there are hidden dangers.

Danger #1: The toe divider. Some flip flops have a toe divider that will leave your little piggies chafed and bleeding.

Danger #2: Flat padding. The flatness of flip flops is no good for your natural arch. You need support. Moral support, breast support, and foot arch support.

Danger #3: Foot straps. Some foot traps are comfortable for all of 3 minutes and then you are ready to take them off. Also, beware of straps where the other end is secured through the bottom of the flip flop. Securing straps this way is poor design as it can get caught whilst walking and you can fall to your death. Also having the strap secured through the bottom wears it down and then it breaks prematurely.

A good pair of flipper floppers has a nice cloth strap secured in the middle of the sole that is wide enough to cuddle your foot. It also has some arch support whether built into the padding or above. The toe divider should be natural, you know‚Ķ ‚Äúone of the guys”‚Ķ another pea in the pod if you will.

So go git yerself some of dem flipper floppers.
