What To Do About PLAYING DR. MARIO

By: Tim Mallon | 9. Dec 2009

dr-marioAs many of you know, or should know, Tetris is Terry’s video game of choice. Mine, on the other hand is Dr. Mario.

For those who do not know, Dr. Mario is an old school Nintendo game. It is a game in which you have a certain amount of viruses in a bottle that you have to destroy with pills that Dr. Mario throws into the bottle. In order to get rid of the viruses with the pills you must match the color of the pills with the color of the viruses and align them so that there are 4 in a row. Once you get 4 in a row of the same color the virus disappears.

I have always told myself that I really like a game when I enjoy playing it even when I lose over and over. Such is the case with Dr. Mario and thus I know it’s love. And ping-pong… I can play ping-pong against my brother and lose 10 games straight and still enjoy playing. I guess it could be hope and joy that drives me on though… the hope that one game I will win and feel a sense of accomplishment. I think I like the competition too, cause I know that I like playing someone who can challenge me in the game. It’s no fun to blow someone out of the water every time. You know?

It’s a different skill set than that of Tetris. I am not very good at Tetris but I can hold my own at Dr. Mario. It has more to do with seeing possible alignments of 4 than building and packing. I am bad at Tetris and thus it seems I am a bad mover. I am good at Dr. Mario and thus it seems I can tell you what your options for moving are. It seems we all have a lot to learn from each other. So it seems.

Yessssssss. All viruses have been defeated! Now, don’t you feel good about yourself?

ahaha.. thank you so much Annie, that was very thoughtful of you… and… I love it! I just need to make sure no one else uses it… I mean… you do know what to do about using someone else's bar soap right?

Well you and Nate have Dr. Mario, Terry has Tetris, Tony has Super Mario 3. My game of choice is Punch Out(Mike Tyson or not)!! It always has and it will be!!!

Tim, you never lose at Dr. Mario. So it's probably not really love. The fact that I played you and Nate and lost over and over and over again, even while playing at decidedly lower levels…that's for the love of the game.

And Andrew–I used to play Punch Out every day. I'm having flashbacks. I haven't thought about that game in 20 years.

Shelby swept me all three once… I had to go down a level. Nathan could beat her at that level, how come I couldn't? It is a mystery for the ages…

I have the original on my Wii and I'm almost tempted to give the punchout Wii a try.

  8. Shelbyville says:

I'm just more committed to the game.
