What To Do About MAKING YOUR BED

6 Oct 2008 by Tim Mallon, 17 Comments »

I am afraid that this message comes too late for many of you. I am afraid you have missed the importance of bed making. Those fluffy pillows and sultry blankets can be very deceiving. Be vigilant or else they will lull you to complacency, not to mention sleep.

There are many bountiful benefits to making your bed and the sum of them is greater than the parts. Let’s examine.

First, when you make your bed you help yourself begin the day. It is the discipline of making your bed that says “No, I will not be a slave to you bed… I will get out of you and seal you up so that I can go and make something of myself today!” So you see, it prepares you to divide and conquer.

Secondly, when you regularly make your bed you develop a routine of discipline that will spill over into other areas of your life… prompted by the example of your bed. It will be a shining bed on a hill, if you will.

Thirdly, when you make your bed you prepare to receive a reward. You like Christmastime don’t you? And birthdays? You see, each evening you get to pull back the covers and “unwrap” if you will the present that is your bed. If you fail to make your bed.. well… then all you have is a jumbled mess that leaves you with no surprise and tantalization.

I hope that you have been challenged to examine your bed making habits… or lack thereof. If you would like more instruction on how to make your bed feel free to let me know. I am thinking of starting a new club called the “We Make Our Bed Club”. That way we can meet others who make there bed and encourage each other in making the bed. So you can make your bed and eat it to.

Do you make your bed?

As a charter member of BOA (Bedwetters of America) Your idea of making the bed every morning is impossible and unrealistic.

I did and now I feel accomplished! If I do nothing else today at least I made my bed… and I like that.

I don't make my bed everyday, but when I do, I feel really great about myself. Made beds are always visually appealing. Just sometimes…I gotta go, and I can't take that extra 7 seconds to make it.

The one thing I will not be slave to is making my bed everyday!

Oh ye of little faith… don't you see? You are enslaved already by the mindset that making your bed is enslaving.

Hmm… I'm perpested. (new made up word) B/c see, I always sleep ontop of my comfortor and never under the sheets. So, when I awake – my bed is always still made up. I've never liked sleeping under the covers b/c I like to toss the covers around too much and I find myself getting stuck under covers in order to do that….. So, just a very soft blanky to cover up with on top of the lucious sofy comfortor….. Never will have to make a bad again!!!

But what if you get cold at night? then what?

  • http://www.whattodoabout.com wtdaTim

he just said he was a soft comfy blanket that is on top of his comforter.

Not a bad strategy… the only problem is that you will have to clean your comforter more often… and that is usually avoiding by changing the sheets. However, you will be one step ahead of everyone when it comes to the daily routine of making the bed!

    ah, missed that part…my apologies.

  • Bob Barker

I never get cold b/c I have a very heavy soft blanket to cover up with. Plus, I sleep with pants and a shirt on. My comfortor is a thin bedspread that covers a big white goosedown comforter. I do wash the bedspread more often – but I remove it from the comforter.. Kind of like taking a pillow case off a pillow…. And it washes like a regular blanket… I've tried sleeping under the covers and its like they hold me prisoner and I can't toss or turn…… In the future, if I have someone to share my bed with. I will be open to change. Until now, it works for me. Plus, all the covers makes the bed more soft to lay on….. : ) You should try it, take a nap on it.. Walk into it slowly. lol

    I didn't say I was a soft comfy blanket…. but I actually am. : )

Hahah, I remember my mother trying to instill this habit on me. Making my bed every morning.
It still escapes me though. Still practicing that discipline at 24 :)
